Things A Student Magician Should Know

Okay, so you are still reading my blogs on how to be a magician. I see you are serious. But before you proceed, I want to remind you about strengthening your protection spells. This is easy actually, no need for elaborate rituals really but talking to your Guardian Angel before you sleep every night should do the trick. So now you know now how to ramp up your personal shield, you can then proceed to be a practical magician.

As I have mentioned in my previous blogs, you should do at least basic readings on topics like the Tarot. Initiation into Hermetics is good but hard to practice but at least, Sir Bardon will explain basic things there. At least do this, and do some Yoga exercises as well, assuming you have now positive thinking and belief in yourself, I would think you're on your way to doing light magic.

Now to further your evolution from being The Fool to The Magician, I will be assigning you extra researches on the topics of The Order of the Golden Dawn and the personalities in them. I don't need to remind you not to delve into books related to necromancy, rituals with animal sacrifices or any topics related to dark magic. As I have said, we are on the positive side. Killing an animal will give us negative energies and so on, so you don't wanna be wrap in those kinds of things. As I have said, it's about the degree of your belief that makes your magic work. Doing let's say a ritual where you have to kill a chicken, maybe that would work too, for a time, but the more you will do that the more negative energies gather around you and there will come a time your karma goes back to you seven-fold. Doing positive magic is the only way to go about being a magician and enjoying it. When karma hits you, the only thing that you can be paid by karma is seven-fold of positive things. The reason I want you to read about the Golden Dawn is because I want you to know these famous occult personages. Well, it's not really related to what I want you to do to become magicians but I want you to know what you shouldn't become. We don't need to become affiliated with groups or orders to learn magic as I have argued before that we are independent beings of each other.

This is one of the reason I did not continue my membership in an order because it just dawned on me that being affiliated to any outfit actually hinders me. Like example, they taught you a ritual or knowledge so you can get up to a ranking, and they would say this cannot get out or you will have karma on you. That alone, undergoing those rituals to get a higher grade, you're already giving them permission to have power over you. You will be doing things prescribed by them and thus you wouldn't be able to develop much your own thing. One example of this is magic words. Most likely they will tell you certain magic words to say for something like healing or whatever. In my case I am just making my own. This is another thing I think modern magicians have overlooked, by modern I mean 20th century magicians, is that they still rely on Latin words to invoke. Yes, of course, I would say they are powerful indeed with the right positive vibration and belief that they will come into effect once uttered. To explain why Latin is not as effective as before, because it is a dead language. It's usage has been overgrown. I would argue that it is better to utter words in English because there would be more power to that because a lot of people in their mind uses English, which I would take that since more people are talking in English, then it follows also that English would be much better understood or would resonate more in other planes in our lifetime.

Hope I was clear.

Birthdays and Magic

If there is a day in the year that would be the best time to do magic, it is no other than--  You guessed it, your birthday. Some school of thought would call it your Solar Day too. Anyway, why is this so? I have read somewhere that is because this is the day that you were born and so you have a natural positive aura on this day. Usually, I say usually because I'm speaking for most people, on this day, we get gifts, people greet us and remember us, so there is a positive vibe going on. In other words we are in very good spirits and so while we have this feeling, doing magic is very auspicious to do so.

Well, yes, I agree to that point of view. But another reason I should point out too is that is not just because you are positively vibrant on this day but also because we are also using other people's energy on this day. So let's say you have a family of three brothers and 2 sisters and you have say 30 friends coming to your party plus you're mom and dad, so that gives you around 37 people wishing you happiness and good luck and blessings. I am just making a point here but what I really want to say is that you are on other people's mind on this day. And because I believe that everyone is a subcomponent of the original God-Creator-figure (if you missed this, please refer to my blog titled, "Inner Thoughts"), they have of course like loaned you their own powers as well. So in short you are boosted by your friends and family's positive thoughts towards you. I have read somewhere that the best time to redo your protection spells is also on your birthday, it is because you have like a turbo booster of positive energies to spend, thus making your magic double or triple effective.

However, if you missed this day, there are always other days like anniversaries, promotion days, whatever days that people will remember you. As I have said before in my previous blog, this is a numbers game, the more people thinks of you, in a positive light of course, the more added boost you will have. Now, of course, if people don't quite like you and you have many enemies, there would be lots of counter energies that will block your magic. We don't have actually to wait for occasions to have this power boost, we can always be friendly and thoughtful like texting good-natured SMS messages or emails or being a friendly neighbor or officemate and spreading positiveness around. The more people you talk to and help, the more positive-charged energies you will gain. If you're always frowning, always grumpy towards other people, the more negative energies other people will generate for you, and we don't like that if we are doing magic.

My Guardian Angel Experience

One of the turning points of my magical career was when my Guardian Angel appeared to me in a dream. It was like the most lucid dream I ever had. Up to now I could still remember every detail of that dream, I mean it was that detail rich and vibrantly unforgettable.I say a turning point because that dream affirmed that my meditations and unusual things I do were amounting to something. Being a secret magician and no one really to talk to about esoteric things, I was wondering sometimes back then if what I was doing were amounting to something. And so when my Guardian Angel appeared to me in a most unusual dream experience, I had no doubt that I am on the right path.

Before I describe my experience with my Guardian Angel, I cannot forget the day when I was but 6 years old when my dad told me that if I want to, my Guardian Angel would appear to me. I said, "Yes, what do I need to do?" "It's very easy, you just have to talk to him to appear to you and he will appear to you. However, there is one condition. They only appear to good boys." So from that day on I always make it a point to talk to my Guardian Angel before I go to sleep. I mean it would be cool if he did appear to me, I mean who wouldn't like to see Angels? I would remember if I told a lie, that would mean that I have to start all over again and that's why he wasn't appearing to me yet. In a nutshell, I tried to be a very good boy as I am expecting a very special reward if I did. Fast forward to 20 years later, he hasn't appeared to me yet but it was the time that I was meditating a lot. Even after 20 years, I still talk to my Guardian Angel especially when I did something good. I would tell him, "So now are you ready to reveal yourself to me, I did another good deed?" And then I read it was at this time that my girlfriend gave me a gift of a statue of an Angel and also I was reading this book about Angels and their names. So when I got a name of the Angel supposed to be assigned guarding those people that fall on my birthday, we were now on a first name basis. So when I talk to him now, I would call him by the name I saw on that book. Just a couple of months after learning my Guardian Angel's name, that was when he came to me in a dream.

I was not expecting what I saw when I woke up. The first thing I said to myself, "Oh, yeah, I should have known, they appear in dreams and not like when you're awake." Okay so my dream went like this. Like suddenly I was teleported into this cloudless azure space but even though it is very open, you know like it is a realm on it's own. I was floating in the sky and to my north-west was a floating window sill. And then when I turned to my right,  there he was. When I saw him, his wings was majestically spread out and not flapping at all. It was the most calming sight that I have ever seen. However, despite that very calmingly-numb experience, I knew that I was dreaming as I remember going to sleep just a few minutes ago. After gathering my wits about although I was still in total awe, I managed to say hi. One very striking thing that was impressed upon me was that it was not a picture of Angels we are used to as depicted by renaissance paintings. My Angel was wearing tight black leotards-like leggings with a red stripe on the sides with black strappings on the torso much like He-man action figures. And then another thing I took note was that he was wielding a scythe in each hand but the size were like half of what La Mort wields. My reaction was really, "Wow! My Guardian Angel is the warrior kind, the one demons will really fear." Also I have to mention this, his hair is curly and his face and build kind of looks like Taylor Lautner. He did not say something and I didn't want to talk further because his presence and the place had so much impact on me.So upon waking up, the feeling was still lingering. I didn't want to get off the bed right away. For me it was a moment of triumph.

The aftermath of that, many times I have been in places where a lot of hold-ups and robberies happen but never I had the feeling of I would be a victim. Like one night, I rode a bus and there were like less than 10 people on that bus. On one stop, a group of guys climbed up and sat down to wherever there were people sitting down. The moment a guys sat down beside me, I knew they were going to go for my wallet and valuables because it could only be that situation as I was thinking that's the only logical explanation why they need to sit down on separate seats and sit on where somebody was already sitting down. I mean, there were so many spaces to choose from why sit beside me, on the guy sitting also alone in front of me, and to everyone else. Like the bus hasn't moved like 15 meters when their leader suddenly stopped the bus and told his pals to alight the bus immediately. Now, the driver who was also sweating was sighing in relief. He said that they were the notorious gang operating on that route at night. I thank my Guardian Angel so very much because I knew he had something to do with those guys change of mind. What really happened on the physical plane was that there was a policeman at the very back of the bus. Maybe they knew the guy was a cop and so the leader thought why complicate things and told his boys to step down the bus as he forgot something.

I am sharing this because I think every modern magician would need active protection from their Guardian Angels as we would be more prone to demons and negatively charged beings. I would say this is a prerequisite to establish before practicing spirits summonings as you might summon something you cannot handle. I would also stress that when you are starting, you should have a good protection spell or method to protect yourself because that is the time you will be prone to spiritual attacks as you are not that strong yet or you do not know enough. Also include your family members when you're casting protection spells as with my experience before, a lot of my family members used to get sick when I was starting out. When I noticed it included them in my protection spells, the sicknesses were gone.

For those interested, you can drop an email address or reply to this and I will teach you how to defend yourself.

Inner Thoughts

If you have liked my first three blogs about becoming a modern day magician, I would like to share an old article of mine published in a different blog site. I just reread it and I think the things I wrote in there would also give some insight on modern magicians indirectly.

Like a movie trailer to whet the appetite of moviegoers, let me introduce this article of mine entitled, "Do We Need Religion?" It's not really about magic and stuff but it is how I view the scheme of things in the universe. Hope you'll enjoy it.

Basic Stuff for Apprentices of Magic

As I have discussed on my first two blogs where I talked about thinking positively always and in the power of belief. Now, we will talk about what basic things you need to know on how to proceed on our path to becoming a practical magician.

My next advice, of course, would be read books related to occult magic. There are a lot of good books out there which are available. The drawback however in reading these books are it's hard to understand them or they don't reveal really anything. The trick to reading these kind of books is that you have to read between the lines. Other people are lucky as they have a guru to explain things to them but for people like me who are self thought, would really have read and read over and over again just to know what they were talking about.
Often times these books are hardcore esoteric stuff and don't really say anything in layman's terms and would be hard to understand but now there is an internet to aid us now at least to get resources as to what terms and phrases like chakras, tree of life and major arcana are. However, when you read these kinds of books, of course there are would be some stuff there that are easy to understand too but also you have to know the purpose of the book why it was written. Usually, these accomplished authors are playing safe to weed out the people who are ready and people who are just curious. They don't usually reveal things and serve them to you on a silver platter. Sometimes they just really want to let you know the basic stuff like knowing about natural laws and warn you of repercussions on your person should you try to be ambitious. The thing really here is that you have to find out for yourself. Serious students would discern what they are talking about. They will not teach you spells but rather it is their intention to make your own thing and that they are just teaching you and warn you things you shouldn't do. It's really tricky stuff and their intention really is to disappoint people who have no business with magic. So if you happen to be reading a book and it is telling you right there and there on how to make someone fall in love with you or telling you a step by step process of a spell, then I'm telling you straight out that you are wasting your time. These are not the books you should be reading.

One book I could recommend is a book by Paul Foster Case entitled, "Tarot." Yes, you will not find any spells here but it will give any aspiring practical magicians very clear interpretations on the symbolism of every card which every magicians should really know about.

Another one I could recommend is not esoteric in nature but rather an inspirational book by Neal Stephen Walsh, the "Conversation With God" series. A very empowering and modern book. Just read it and you will know what I'm talking about.

The thing here is that occult books are not readily available but if you could get your hands on books of these nature, just read them for knowledge sake, don't follow what you read at first. When you have read like 10 different authors, then you decide which suits you best. "Initiation to Hermetics" by Franz Bardon is pretty instructional but me I couldn't even get to the part where I have to wake up every morning at 5 AM and scrub myself, and that was I think just the second exercise. So I said that was not for me but I did Exercise 1 there and  was able to control my thoughts but that was it and so I went about looking for other books. And that was a pretty valuable skill I learned. So even though I wasn't able to do the required things Sir Bardon wanted me to do, I learned some basic stuff though.  I don't like to mention other books as you may  not lay your hands on them at all. If you will go looking for books, you could find books written by well-known occultists. I don't want to name names but just stay with the good guys. Let's say you found out a title or an author, you can always google and check out if the author were known to have a bad reputation in the realm of occult magic. Yoga-related books are also good later on you would also be doing a lot of meditation.

So You Want to Learn Magic Part 2

In the first outing, we talked about maintaining a positive disposition (please refer to So You Want to Learn Magic blog) as the first step to becoming a practicing magician and have actual results on things-- Sorry, on "positive things" you want to have results with. So after achieving a positive frame of mind at all times, the next step towards the path of magicianship is belief in oneself.

Having not an iota of a doubt to what you want to happen to manifest in the physical plane is certainly a very important attitude to develop. Having even one thought of doubt is enough to dispel whatever positive magic you are trying to do. Notice how people with extreme determination achieve their goals no matter how insurmountable the odds they face. Like for example, any Olympic gold medalist will attest to the power of believing in oneself. They know if they train hard and push their selves to the limit, they could achieve gold and glory. Although they are not magicians in a sense, but the attitude of believing in their selves is enough to make the cosmic forces to work in their favor.

Another examples are those suffering from cancer diseases. Sometimes we hear news of people just getting well despite getting afflicted with life threatening diseases which we perceive as miracles as modern science cannot really explain what transpired. The patient who, lets say has cancer, suddenly gets cured despite doctors' findings that he should have been dead but is still walking and breathing could be quite buffling, but to me, that person believed that he he will get well and just refused to give up. This is the only explanation why people have different religions and pray to different gods but when they pray to their god and really believed that what they prayed for will happen. They had tremendous faith. Praying is actually a form of believing in oneself but using religion to trigger the intended effect have backfired for some people. Sometimes when prayers become unanswered, people blame their deity and loses faith and a lot of times turns to vices and get wrapped in negativism which is really what we don't want to fall into. However, I am not saying we don't need religion but actually I would advise you to stay to your religion. Since you were young, and you have been attending church or praying the rosary or novenas, observing whatever traditions your religion has been observing, you actually have been developing a sort of power trigger in you to tap into this amazing power of belief. So those people changing religions would actually find themselves less effective magicians as they would have to restart building up some unconscious foundation of one's power.

So again, power of belief in oneself is another key to remember always. Without this, nothing will ever come to fruition of whatever you are trying to bring forth to the physical plane.

To practice power of belief, start with little things that you can back with deeds. Like for example, you want to be the number one salesman in your office, then believe that you are and then back it up with things like doing more sales calls, posting more ads and whatever that will help you achieve your goal. Believing in oneself of course is one thing however we have to remember that doing nothing, a negative thing, will counter your belief. This means, believing and backing it up with deeds are two sides of a coin. Now, when you see your little goals becoming real, you can now try doing greater things like aspiring for promotion to higher position or whatever will meet your criteria of big things.

So You Want To Learn Magic?

People dabbling in magic has always been ostracized in the past, but with the help of movies like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and many more actually made magic a cool thing now.  Always, it never fails, when we watch those movies and see the special effects, we always wonder if those things are possible in real life, like bolts of lightning coming out of the fingers or turning disappearing and appearing somewhere else. Well, I will tell you now, those are just special effects. Magic is about making your thoughts or idea manifest into reality. Let's stick to to the real world, we know we cannot shoot lightning bolts from our fingers as our skin will probably burn if it comes in contact with electricity. What I'm saying about sticking to the real world is that we apply magic on things that are possibly achievable. Like for example, you are going into a job interview, if you can get the name of your interviewer, then before an interview, you can put his/her name on a paper-- Oops, I'm sorry, I'm revealing a spell here, I will get back on this spell in coming blogs. What I'm saying here is, in a job interview, what you really need to do is charm your interviewer so he/she will hire you, and charming someone is quite an easier or achievable thing to do.

Going back to the question, "So you want to learn magic?" If you really want to, you can. However, there is a caveat. It can only be used for good or positive ends and not for evil ends. Forget it if you want someone to die or afflict infirmities to someone you hate because that will not work. Magic is about positive thinking and negative thoughts will just counter any thing you are trying to manifest into the physical world. So that's the secret and the first basic step into becoming a practitioner of magic is to always think positive. I repeat, THINK POSITIVE only. Any negative thoughts will actually dispel any magic you are trying to achieve so it's important to keep a positive disposition at all times.

Don't you find it odd that Jesus Christ was teaching to love thy enemy and thy neighbor? It was because he was a magician Himself and a teacher. Loving your enemy is the only way to keep positive thoughts and sometimes it cannot be helped to have enemies.

So, this is it for now, the first secret is out. Thinking positive is the key to learning magic. That's why it is not possible to do bad things or black magic as some people would call it for practitioners of magic as the first rule is to keep a positive attitude.
